GEOGRAPHY: REPRESENTATION OF RELIEF FORM.

 REPRESENTATIVE OF RELIEF FORM.

The relief of an area, refers to the highlands and lowlands and the charater of the physical features of that area. As the map we are studying are topographical maps(in which all important surface geographical features must be shown), its very essential for the students to know how the relief features are shown on a map drawn on flat paper.
A map gives more details information about the relief of the area than merely showing highlands and lowlands. The shapes of the features, the nature and aspects of the slopes and the general topographical scenery of the land represented are usually varied and unique in themselves.
You have to consider that these relief influences human activities and the land use pattern in that area e.g , the alignment of communication lines, the distribution of settlement and farming activities usually bear a close relationship with the relief of the area.
On a map,we will want to know how the land rises and slope down,we also want to identify the actual height shape surface of the highlands region, the slope and aspect of the valley which separate the hills plateau and ridges. All these should be represented on the map in such away that them can easily be identified
 and interpreted.

VARIOUS METHODS OF SHOWING RELIEF
