TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

 Trafficking in persons is a modern day slavery involving the exploitation of people through forces,coercion, threat and deception. It  started in Nigeria about the early 90s till date.

Trafficking in persons,can be the recruitment of persons through force or deception.The person might be deceived that there are job offer waiting for them. A person having control over another for the purpose of exploitation.children being used in child  labour as domestic helpers, work in farms,industries etc. There's an urgent need to curb this menace. The government needs to identify and gradually face out this issues.

There are different reasons why people indulge in trafficking.; Some of which are stated below,

1) Poverty

2)Greed

3)Ignorance

4)Peer pressure

5)Unstable family.

Poverty is a Major issue because most people are either jobless or very low salary earners. People who even want to take up job below there educational qualification do not find any available. Thereby making them victims or being the trafficker.

Another cause of trafficking is greed for money and material things.

Ignorance is also a factor , people are deceived  that ,there are better opportunities waiting for them, where they are going, beliving , they are traveling to better their lots .some getting there ,were forced into prostitution and all sort of illegal job. The worst is their passport and visa will be seized by the trafficker, not only that , they will be made to pay more than hundred percent interest. Thus ignorance has increased trafficking tremendously.

The younger populace, through peer pressure, either becomes victims or traffickers. They are in that age where they believe anything. They are daring and willing to take risks at all cost. They also influence by friends who flaunt their wealth and material things. The syndrome of I want to belong lure them to involved in one form or another. They  are only interested in getting wealth, rather than seeking how their peer came by such wealth.

Furthermore, unstable family is another cause of trafficking. A home where people lived all their lives in  an atmosphere of conflicts, misbehaviour and neglect such that they can not differentiate between right and wrong. They are not accountable to any body,neither is there anybody responsible for them. Which made some of them to cultivate bad habits and in order to support the habits, they lure victims in exchange for money. Others see their situations as hopeless desire to be better in life,and so they fall victims. 

Trafficking can lead to some problems such as ;

1)Physical abuse such as rape torture and beaten.

2)Unwanted pregnancy.

3)Abuse of fundamental human right

4)contacting sexually transmitted diseases (STD).

5) Post traumatic stress.

6) Fear and anxiety.

7)Guilt and shame.

8) Server forms of mental disorder.

5)Above all death.

In other to fight trafficking in our society, the following should be put in place;

Enactment of trafficking law to prohibit trafficking.

Providing special training to the law enforcement agents on how to recognize, investigate, and prosecute human traffickers.

NOTE; Almost all the countries are involved trafficking. Some are source countries, while others are destination or transit countries. The countries where the victims are recruited are known as a source countries, where as transit are the countries the victim pass through  an example is through(Nigeria- Libya / morocco to Spain or Italy). The destination countries is where the victims are used as where they have their organs removed, prostitution and for labour. 

Its also of note, that illiteracy also play a vital role in the lives of the victims. So let's keep our eyes open so as not to fall victim.
